Expert Core Board Firmware Update Service Call Instructions

Service Call Instructions for identified customers who have been affected by an issue in the firmware of the blue screen USB display boards used in AP’s Expert-Natural, Expert-VT110, Expert-VT212, Expert-PNT212, and the Expert-PN110 controls. These instructions apply to these Expert control models and to the replacement blue display boards. The part numbers of effected replacement boards are: E330-0531, E330-0532, E330-0533, and the E330-0534. This process will not affect your user settings.

The following instructions explain how to update the firmware in a control or replacement board:

  1. Lift the latches to open the clear front door of the controller.

  2. Verify if the controller already has the correct version. Go to the User menu on the left hand side using the MENU SELECT navigation arrows, this menu is located along the left hand column down in the SETUP area. Navigate to the bottom of the User menu to the Version menu by using the down arrow key below the EDIT button to scroll through the menus until you get to the Version and then press ENTER or the right arrow key. If the version is “Core V1.6.3246”, the controller has a good firmware and is not affected. If the version is lower, please continue the following steps.

  3. Use a flat head screwdriver to loosen the two locks on the front panel and open the panel.

  4. Insert your USB stick in the proper connector as shown on the picture below.

  3. Select the “Update firmware” option (arrow down using the down button below the EDIT key and then press ENTER or the right arrow key). When selecting this option, a list of all firmware files located on the card is displayed (*.PKG files). Select the file named “HOG_V1_6.pkg” (by using the up and down arrow buttons above or below the EDIT button) and then press and hold both the up and down arrow keys above and below the EDIT button for 5 seconds to launch the transfer. Once the transfer has started you can release the buttons. The system will reboot after it successfully installs.
Note: If the wrong file is selected an error message will be displayed “Invalid file (-5)”

  4. Verify if the controller now has the correct version. Navigate down to the USER menu along the left hand side using the MENU SELECT down arrow key. Navigate to the bottom of the User menu to the Version menu by using the down arrow key below the EDIT button to scroll through the menus until you get to the Version and then press ENTER or the right arrow key. The version should show “Core V1.6.3246” If not showing “Core V1.6.3246” or higher go back to step 6.

  5. If the version is acceptable remove the USB stick and close the controller. Normal controller operation has resumed.

*Please note, to update boards in stock, it is necessary to hook them up to an Expert controller. Once powered up, the update procedure from step 6 can be followed***

**Note that the controller can only read the files that are located at the root directory of the USB drive. It cannot access any sub-directories!
