Mini-Expert Core Board Firmware Update Service Call Instructions
Service Call Instructions for identified customers who have been affected by an issue in the firmware of the blue screen USB display boards used in AP’s EXP-2V2SA, EXP-2V3SA, and the EXP-2V4SA controls. These instructions apply to these control models and to the replacement blue display boards. The part numbers of effected replacement boards are: E330-0449, E330-0451, and the E330-0475. This process will not affect your user settings.
The following instructions explain how to update the firmware in a control or replacement board:
- Verify if the controller already has the correct version. To view the firmware version on these controls you will have to power the control down and then power the control back up. While the control is rebooting the firmware version will briefly be displayed on the screen. If the version is “Core V1.4.3246”, the controller has a good firmware and is not affected. If the version is lower, please continue the following steps.
- Lift the latch to open the front door of the controller.
- Insert your USB stick in the proper connector as shown on the picture below.
- Close the front panel.
- Simultaneously press and hold both the up and down MENU SELECT buttons for 5 seconds and then release the buttons to display the transfer menu (shown below)

- Select the “Update firmware” option (right hand down arrow by the MODIFY button and then press the MODIFY button). When selecting this option, a list of all firmware files located on the card is displayed (*.PKG files). Select the file named “T32_V1_4.pkg” (by individually using the up or down arrow buttons on the right next to MODIFY) and then press and hold both the up and down arrow keys on the right hand side by the MODIFY button for 5 seconds to launch the transfer. The system will reboot after it successfully installs.
Note: If the wrong file is selected an error message will be displayed “Invalid file (-5)”
- While the control is rebooting verify if the controller now has the correct version by watching for the brief display of the firmware version. The version should show “Core V1.4.3246”. If not showing “Core V1.4.3246” or higher go back to step 5.
- If the version is acceptable remove the USB stick and close the controller. Normal controller operation has resumed.
*Please note, to update boards in stock, it is necessary to hook them up to a controller. Once powered up, the update procedure from step 5 can be followed***
**Note that the controller can only read the files that are located at the root directory of the USB drive. It cannot access any sub-directories!
